You could call him your expert in automobile accident recovery, non-surgical spinal decompression, back pain, neck pain, headache, sore neck, stiff neck, whiplash, jammed hip, gimpy leg, frozen shoulder, bum knee, degenerative disc disease, disc herniations, disc bulges, losing weight and getting healthy, pain eliminator, or you could just call him Dr. Don Walsh, chiropractor and owner of New Smyrna Spine & Injury Center, located right here in the surf capital of the world, sunny New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Introduced to chiropractic over 27 years ago while searching for a way to help his grandfather eliminate his chronic pain from multiple failed back surgeries he endured as a result of a simple disc herniation, Dr. Walsh made the life altering decision not only to become a chiropractor, but a chiropractor that would do everything he could to help people live healthier, happier and longer lives - while he was only 8 years old!
At 8 years old, Dr. Walsh told his father that he was going to dedicate his life to helping his grandfather and other people become pain free by becoming a chiropractor. And he has never once wavered from that decision.
While in college at 20 years old, his decision to become a chiropractor was vindicated when the vehicle he was driving was rear ended and he started suffering from the symptoms of whiplash – headaches and neck pain. Dr. Walsh went to the emergency room where they x-rayed his neck and told him they couldn’t help him. They offered him some pills and suggested he see an orthopedist, which he did. The orthopedist then sent him to physical therapy. After completing the prescribed round of physical therapy, Dr. Walsh realized that his headaches and neck pain did not improve and so sought out chiropractic care.
Shortly after beginning chiropractic care, his headaches disappeared completely and his neck pain improved. Following a short round of conservative chiropractic care, his neck pain went away and he was able to get fully back into academic life and went on to complete his studies and earn his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL.
After graduating with his BS degree, Dr. Walsh had a serious decision to make. He was offered the opportunity to live and travel throughout Italy and Europe for 6 months for free or start chiropractic classes immediately.
His passion for helping others made the decision for him. Dr. Walsh chose to begin chiropractic classes immediately instead of delaying them for 6 months. And he’s always been extremely happy with his decision because the chiropractic class he was in was a smaller class size and he got more focused attention and guidance from the professor’s and staff, which helped make him a better diagnostician and doctor.
Dr. Walsh attended the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, FL where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree and graduated with Cum Laude honors in 2007. He was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award and Clinical Teaching Award by his professors.
A firm believer in lifelong continuing education, Dr. Walsh went on to earn both a Diplomate and a Fellowship in Acupuncture from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He then tested for, and received, his certification to perform Acupuncture.
After receiving his Acupuncture certification, he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree (graduating cum laude) and his MBBS degree (graduating cum laude) from the University of Arts, Science and Technology in Montserrat, B.W.I. While Dr. Walsh is not yet licensed to practice medicine in the state of Florida, he is in the process of becoming licensed.
Dr. Walsh holds certifications in the Cox Decompression Technique and the Kennedy Decompression Technique (both non-surgical spinal decompression techniques). He has earned his Advanced Whiplash and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury certification from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego and is a certified Auto Safety Trainer. He continues to take post doctoral classes on automobile accident injuries and treatment options, MRI/CT interpretation, triaging trauma patients, documentation of the trauma patient and many other trauma related areas from schools around the USA including Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Walsh is an accredited presenter by the Florida Bar to present attorneys continuing legal education (CLE) in automobile accident trauma and recovery protocols as well as disc herniations and other disc pathologies.
